Nokia xpressmusic 5800 firmware to bring Kinetic Scrolling and N97 Style Homescreen!

admin | July 30, 2009

There is a big buzz in the mobile industry that the two most anticipated enhancements to the symbian operating system are coming to the 5800 after this current v30 release.

Kinetic Scrolling

Nokia 5800 New Homescreen

Nokia 5800 New Homescreen?

Probably the most eagerly anticipated enhancement is the addition of Kinetic scrolling of the type already used by the iPhone. This allows yo to browse through list information (such as contacts) by brushing the screen upwards or downwards.

N97 Style Homescreens
The N97 brought us a fantastic new homescreen layout with the ability for the user to add gadgets to perform tasks such as displaying how many emails you have, or your laters facebook or twitter updates. It was thought that this would NOT be added to the 5800 because it was a major selling point for the N97.  But hopefully Nokia have bowed to pressure and have already released lone gadgets for the 5800 on the OVI store (Take a look at the “News Buzz Homescreen Widget” available to download on the OVI store).  In addition, the image to the right is available on the internet currently which clearly shows an N97 style homescreen in operation.

So… for all Nokia xpressmusic 5800 users.  Fingers crossed for the next update!

Scary SMS hack for Apple iPhone could dial out to premium rate numbers – Unveiled Tomorrow

admin | July 29, 2009

It is alleged that cybersecurity team “Miller and Mulliner” will release details on how to hack a persons iPhone by simply sending two SMS messages.

Apparently the hack allows a unscrupulous hacker to “Take over the iPhone” simply by you reading SMS messages sent to your phone.  However, at the moment in time they are not explaining how to do this, or what the hack allows the attacker to do to the phone or any personal details contained witin the phone. It is believed that the hack will allow you to take over the web browser, camera, microphone or even dial the phone.  Imagine if this was the case…… just by receiving a simple SMS it could cause your phone to dial any number of premium rate lines… Scary!

The hack will be Unveiled and demonstrated tomorrow (Thursday 29th July) at the Black Hat Cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas.

Apparently, Apple have been notified about this issue but as yet Apple haven’t released a patch.

Firefox 4 – Welcome to the age of Vista and Windows 7 – Lovely interface!

admin | July 29, 2009

Mozilla has released images of the next version of its firefox browser, Mozilla Firefox V4.

Firefox 4 interface theme mockups for firefox 4.0

The current version of the browser, the only current real alternative to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer on the PC lacks the interface transparency included in the Aero interface of Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7 Operating system.

A number of people have been highlighting similarities between the interface and Google’s Chrome browser but here at technocentral we think it’s a great step forward in usability and giving the new firefox the ‘look’ of a current piece of software.

Other features expected for a version 4.0 release are:

  • Minimal User Interface
  • Running each tab in a seperate process to improve stability of both the browser and operating system
  • Greater speed of page rendering
  • Continuation of HTML standards
